Multi-branch groups usually describe the same symptom: the numbers arrive late, and when they arrive someone disputes them. The instinct is to look for a better report. The cause is almost always that branches are not closing on the same basis.
Same basis, or you are reconciling not reporting
If one branch books freight to cost of sales and another to overheads, no report will make them comparable. Consolidation only works when the underlying treatment is shared, which is a policy decision before it is a system one.

Comparison and consolidation are different jobs
Consolidation answers what the group made. Comparison answers which branch is performing and why. They need different views, and conflating them produces a report that serves neither.
Head office wants the group number. A branch manager wants their own number, today, without waiting for everyone else to close.
Give each level its own view
- Branch manager: their own revenue, cost, stock and receivables, live.
- Regional lead: comparison across their branches on identical measures.
- Head office: consolidated position, with drill-down to branch and entity.
- Owner: cash, margin and receivables, on one screen.
Role-based access is what makes this safe. People see their own numbers without seeing everyone else's, which removes most of the political friction around shared reporting.
Close on a calendar, not on availability
A fixed close calendar, enforced by period locks, is what turns reporting from a chase into a routine. Branches that know the date is immovable prepare for it. Branches that believe it is negotiable will always be the reason the group is late.
The test of a working setup
Can a branch manager see their own position on the second working day of the month without asking anyone for it? If not, the reporting problem is a process problem.
