Odoo vs SAP Business One for Saudi Businesses

SAP Business One is licensed per named user in professional and limited tiers, plus annual maintenance, typically through a partner. Odoo Enterprise is licensed per user per month on a published price list; Odoo Community is open source with no licence fee. For a company with many light users, Odoo's model is usually cheaper, and Community can remove the licence line entirely at the cost of Enterprise-only apps and official support.

Implementation cost is closer than the licence gap suggests. Both need process study, configuration, migration and training, and both are quoted by partners. The difference tends to be in customisation: SAP B1 add-ons and SDK work are specialist and priced accordingly; Odoo customisation is broader in supply and usually cheaper per feature, with the risk that cheap work is upgrade-unsafe. Both platforms have Saudi localisation covering VAT at 15% and e-invoicing workflows, delivered through localisation packages and partner add-ons. In both cases what applies to you depends on your e-invoicing phase and the version you run, and in both cases the configuration has to be done and tested by someone who understands Saudi finance. Neither platform is 'compliant' out of the box in a way that removes that work. Arabic interface and bilingual documents are available on both; Odoo's right-to-left support is native across the interface, while SAP B1's Arabic localisation is well established for documents and screens.

SAP Business One is deep and structured in finance and core distribution; much of the breadth comes from add-ons. Odoo covers more functions natively, which reduces integration work but means each app must be evaluated on its own merits.

SAP Business One is customised through user-defined fields and tables, the SDK and partner add-ons. It is controlled and stable, and specialist. Odoo is customised through configuration, Studio and custom modules on an open framework. It is faster and cheaper, and it is where badly implemented Odoo systems go wrong: core edits and undocumented modules that block upgrades. Both can run on-premise or on cloud infrastructure inside Saudi Arabia. SAP B1 is typically hosted by the partner or on your servers; Odoo runs on Odoo Online (Odoo's cloud, outside the Kingdom), Odoo.sh, or self-hosted on Saudi infrastructure. SAP Business One has a long-established partner network in the Kingdom with consistent certification. Odoo's partner network has grown quickly and is more varied in quality, which makes partner selection the most important decision in an Odoo project. • Choose SAP Business One if you want a structured, mature ERP with strict change control, your processes fit its model, per-user cost is acceptable, and you value a large established partner network.
• Choose Odoo if you want breadth across finance, stock, manufacturing, CRM, HR and POS in one platform, expect to shape the system to your process, want lower licence cost, and are prepared to choose a partner carefully.
