Odoo vs Dynamics 365 Business Central for Saudi Companies

Business Central is the ERP that Saudi companies already on Microsoft 365 are shown first; Odoo is the modular platform that operations-heavy companies shortlist. Both are credible in the Kingdom. This comparison sets out where each is the better fit.

The short version

Dynamics 365 Business Central is a mature finance-led ERP in the Microsoft cloud, priced per user per month in Essentials and Premium tiers, with deep integration into Microsoft 365, Power BI and Power Platform, and a large Saudi partner base. Odoo is a broader operational platform, priced per user with a free Community edition, hostable inside the Kingdom, and customisable on an open framework.

We implement Odoo and not Business Central. We meet this comparison mostly with companies whose IT team is Microsoft-centric and whose operations team wants manufacturing, warehouse, POS or field service without add-ons. The sections below are what decides it.

Licensing and cost

Business Central is licensed per named user per month, with Essentials for finance, sales and supply chain and Premium adding manufacturing and service; team-member licences cover light users. Odoo Enterprise is per user per month on a published list, and Odoo Community is free to license. For companies with many operational users, Odoo's model is usually cheaper; for finance-centric companies with few users, the gap narrows.

Implementation costs are similar in shape: process study, configuration, migration, training and support, quoted by partners on both sides. Business Central partners in the Kingdom tend to quote in the mid-market range; Odoo quotes vary more widely with partner quality. See the Odoo cost guide.

Microsoft 365 and Power Platform

This is Business Central's strongest argument. It lives inside the Microsoft stack: Outlook, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, Power BI and Power Automate connect with little effort, and Azure AD handles identity. If your organisation runs on Microsoft 365 and your IT team builds in Power Platform, Business Central fits their skills. Odoo integrates with Microsoft 365 for mail, calendar and single sign-on, and connects to Power BI through its database or API, but it is not native to the stack.

Saudi localisation, VAT and e-invoicing

Both have Saudi localisation through Microsoft's localisation and partner apps on one side and Odoo's Saudi localisation on the other, covering VAT at 15% and e-invoicing workflows. In both cases the configuration and testing for your e-invoicing phase is partner work. Arabic interface and bilingual documents are available on both; Odoo's right-to-left interface is native across every app, while Business Central's Arabic support depends on the localisation and partner apps in use.

Functional depth

FinancialsStrong, structured, multi-company, dimensionsFull ledger, multi-company, analytic accounts, strong bank tools
Inventory and warehouseSolid, with locations and bins; advanced WMS via appsBroad: routes, put-away, barcode, lots, landed cost, replenishment
ManufacturingPremium tier: production orders, BOMs, capacityMRP, work orders, routings, quality, maintenance, subcontracting
CRM and salesBasic; Dynamics 365 Sales for full CRM at extra costFull CRM, quotes, e-signature, website, e-commerce
HR and payrollVia partner appsHR, attendance, leave, payroll (Enterprise), recruitment
POS, field service, helpdeskVia apps or other Dynamics productsNative apps in the same platform
ReportingPower BI, built-in reportsBuilt-in reports, dashboards, spreadsheet, BI connectors

Business Central is deep in finance and distribution and extends through AppSource apps and other Dynamics products. Odoo covers more functions natively, which reduces integration and licensing complexity but requires evaluating each app on its merits.

Customisation and upgrades

Business Central is customised through AL extensions, which are isolated from the core and survive Microsoft's continuous updates; it is a disciplined model with a smaller pool of developers. Odoo is customised through configuration, Studio and custom modules on an open framework; it is faster and cheaper, and it is where poorly run Odoo projects go wrong. The Odoo customisation page describes how we keep it upgrade-safe.

Hosting and data residency

Business Central online runs in Microsoft's cloud in the regions Microsoft designates; on-premise licensing exists but is the exception. Odoo can run on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or self-hosted on Saudi infrastructure. If policy or client contracts require in-Kingdom data, Odoo self-hosted answers it directly; see ERP data residency in Saudi Arabia and Odoo hosting.

Who should choose which

  • Choose Business Central if you are a Microsoft-centric organisation, finance leads the selection, your IT team builds in Power Platform, and per-user cost for a modest user count is acceptable.
  • Choose Odoo if operations lead the selection, you want manufacturing, warehouse, POS, field service or HR in the same platform, many users need access, or data must stay in the Kingdom.
  • Consider both with an integration if the holding company is Microsoft-centric and operating companies need Odoo's depth; see system integration.
